New photos from Ireland

I spent a sunny weekend in Dublin recently, and enjoyed the Irish scenery immensely. I took the advice from some friends and acquaintances, and visited Howth near Dublin as well - and I wasn't disappointed! The photos are in the new Ireland gallery!

Photos on Google Maps

I'm quite excited about a new feature I've been working on for a while: now all my images can be found on Google Maps! The map is on the main page. As there are quite a few images, they are clustered in groups, and you can zoom by using your mouse scroll wheel or by clicking on the number icon to get to each image. The images are still to be found as country galleries in the top menu if you prefer to navigate that way.

Hope this feature is useful, and I'd love to hear feedback!

I put up three new photos I took a few weeks back in Finland during midsummer in Finland gallery. A rural panorama is also viewable as a 109 megapixel rural panorama.

Also, Pieter from Spanish Nature identified the raptor in my Beauty and the Beast photo as a Saker Falcon (falco cherrug). Thanks Pieter!

Panorama of Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans At Night

A full-resolution version of this magnificent Orléans Cathedral is now in the Panoramas gallery!

I also updated Zoomify: now you can view all the panoramas in fullscreen versions. The left-most icon in the user interface takes you to the fullscreen view, ESC returns back to normal. Requires Adobe Flash 8 or newer. You can find rest of the panoramas here!

Queen's Day in Amstedam

I uploaded several photos from today's Queen's Day celebrations in Amsterdam. Up to two million people crowd the streets and canals of Amsterdam every year on April 30th, partying, drinking and dancing. You can find the photos in Various Locations gallery!

China and Hong Kong wallpaper collection

I heard some of you use my photographs as wallpapers on your computer desktop. To give you even better quality wallpapers, I have uploaded a collection of ten wallpapers from China and Hong Kong. You can find most popular screen resolutions, and you can also download the entire set as a zip file. Please note that bought prints don't include the blue matte, image title, or the watermark.

BuyThisImage! launched

Due to increased demand for prints (thanks!), I needed to find a more convenient way to sell them. I found out about a new service called BuyThisImage!. The name is self-explanatory: when you see that link below a photo, clicking on that takes you to a page where you can buy a print. You can then go directly to checkout, or return to the main site to look around for more prints.

The service is powered by ExposureManager, the same service which I've been using since the launch of the original site. Their own pro lab prints on Fujicolor Crystal Archive professional photographic paper, and the prints are archival quality, ie. they are guaranteed to last at least 50 years without appreciable color shift. Now prints can be ordered directly from the website, and come with a full 30-day money-back guarantee - no questions asked!

Please note all print sizes are in inches (ie. 8x10 is 8 inches by 10 inches)!

Since BuyThisImage! was launched only recently, the selection is not as wide as ExposureManager offers. Also, you will have all the print sizes available, although aspect ratio of the photos varies. If you are unsure which print size and aspect ratio suits each image best, don't hesitate to contact me!

User interface updated

A minor update to the site UI: Highslide JS is a nifty script which pops up the images when you click on the thumbnail. I updated the code, and now you can see a control bar when you hover over an image.

You can navigate directly to the next or previous image by clicking on the arrows or using your keyboard arrow buttons. You can also start a slideshow of the images in each gallery by clicking on the play button. And you can open more than one image at a time and move them around, which turns your screen into an old-fashioned slide viewer.

The new code is live on every gallery page - hope you like it!

Amsterdam 50 Street Photography Project Starts!

The first photo of my first distinct project is out. Amsterdam 50 starts with a shot of the starting line of Dam tot Damloop. Street photography is new to me, but Amsterdam has such varied life inspiration comes easy.

I will be updating the Amsterdam 50 page weekly with a new photo for the next fifty weeks.

Plans for 2009, and Zoomify upgraded to V4

In a few days I have a new portrait shoot online - my first studio shoot! -, and I will start my weekly street photography project Amsterdam 50.

Minor update on the site: I upgraded Zoomify to their new version 4. This has a much improved and prettier user interface. You can see it in action under Panoramas gallery. Come back for the 310 megapixel New York City panorama in January!

Welcome to Harri Jahkola Photography 2.0!

After one and a half years with the old site, it was time to upgrade. The site has an entirely new look with enhanced functionality. You can now receive automatic updates whenever the site is updated by subscribing to my RSS feed. But most importantly, there is plenty of new content!
