Panorama from Victoria Peak

A new view from Victoria Peak. The path I took another photograph nine years ago from had overgrown with vegetation, so this is taken from The Peak Gallery in very windy conditions. The most notable addition since 1999 is the elegant International Financial Centre Tower 2, currently the tallest building in Hong Kong. This photo can be found in the Panoramas gallery in all its 38 megapixel glory!

Fishermen and concrete

We rented a yacht for a day and went to the Outlying Islands. This is a view on our way to Clearwater Bay.

10,000 Buddhas Monastery in Sha Tin

Sacrifices right outside 10,000 Buddhas Monastery in Sha Tin. I lived in the area in 1999, but couldn't recognize the location anymore - it has grown and developed so much in the ten years.

bird market

Caged birds at Bird Market in Mong Kok. Songbirds are a popular pet in China, and men often take their birds out on a walk, not unlike Westerners take their dogs out for a walk.

Another view from our day out on a yacht. A lone uninhabited island.

overwhelming

Mong Kok is one of the most crowded places on earth. Stifling heat, thousands of people and hundreds of cars on the streets, noise, smells. There's nothing like that in the world - a thoroughly engaging experience!

thirty stories of bamboo

There are plenty of wondrous things to see in Hong Kong, but this is some of the most amazing ones: this is thirty stories of bamboo scaffolding! Lighter than steel, but it's still boggles the mind to see how high these are built!

Nighttime Cityscape Panorama III

Hong Kong panorama as taken from the piers of Tshim Sha Tsui in Kowloon (mainland Hong Kong). Central Plaza is in the center of the frame behind Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The unmistakable Bank of China Tower is visible near the right edge of the frame. Victoria Peak lies behind Bank of China.

Hong Kong Island has by far the most stunning profile of any city I've visited. I have tried to capture it here, but the scale can not be fully appreciated in this small format. The colors and reflections are made even more eye-catching by the massive neon-lighting on the skyscrapers, put up to celebrate Year of the Rabbit.

Nighttime Traffic II

Hong Kong. I don't have enough words of praise for this jewel of a city. It is a veritable feast for the senses: colorful, loud, safe, efficient, expensive, has perhaps the most delicious food in the world, and "makes New York City look slow" - words of a Big Apple native.

I tried to capture this relentless speed in this nighttime traffic scene in Wanchai on Hong Kong Island. Shot from an overpass with long exposure so car lights become streaks of light. The 78-floor, 378 meters (833 feet) tall Central Plaza in the center of the frame in the background is perhaps the most notable landmark in this shot.

Rolls Royce Hood Ornament

A detail shot from Hong Kong. With the most liberal economy in the world, and located smack in the center of the fastest-expanding economic region it is no surprise that Hong Kong has most billionaires per capita than anywhere else. This means you are more likely to see a Rolls Royce there than anywhere else in the world.
